Welcome to Essex Autism Service

At Essex Autism Service, we provide high quality diagnostic assessments of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Our experienced clinicians use standardised assessment tools recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). We strive to provide the highest quality of service with our client’s needs central to what we do.

We provide specialist multi-disciplinary assessments for children (from aged two years), adolescents and adults. We are experienced in assessing people who have complex or additional needs. For example, many of our clients have co-occurring ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), executive function problems, sensory processing disorder, Irlens Syndrome (visual stress), dyslexia, intellectual or learning disabilities, mental health problems and genetic syndromes. We specialise in assessing girls and women, who have learned to “mask” their symptoms. We are also trained and experienced in screening for co-occurring Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) alongside an assessment of autism.

Many autistic people also have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). If you or your child are showing signs of ADHD, our clinicians are trained to carry out an additional screening and a full diagnostic assessment.

What Our Clients Say About Us

The service was so personal and professional. Every effort was made to accommodate our needs and the report was completed very promptly and efficiently. Dr Bearman was friendly and approachable and clearly understands the autistic perspective and how to put the client and family at ease during an assessment. Her expertise in assessing our son will help us work together to manage his future care more safely and effectively.
I was unsure about pursuing a formal diagnosis for my 61-year-old brother but Dr Bearman was so sensitive when gathering information that he found the process completely unthreatening. It also widened my understanding of his difficulties and the challenges he faces. The report is comprehensive and detailed and I hope it may mean we obtain the support he needs. I would not hesitate in recommending Dr Bearman.
Our daughter was very anxious about attending the appointment, so we appreciated the information that was sent to us beforehand to help prepare her. Our daughter actually enjoyed the assessment and we were pleased to receive the report quickly with detailed recommendations. We hope that the assessment will help us move forward with her education.
Not really knowing what to expect (despite the helpful introduction letter) the experience was friendly, professional and was able to put our child at ease.
